The secret lies in geography
Ecuador sits directly on the equator, and that makes all the difference. At an altitude of around 2,777 metres above sea level, the so-called 'eternal spring' climate prevails: 12 hours of sunshine daily, cool dry nights and nutrient-rich volcanic soils. This combination exists nowhere else on earth.
That gives you roses with heads up to 9 cm, very deep colours and long, sturdy stems between 60 and 120 cm. Enough to build just about anything with.
